Launch of surf resort marked by innovative waste strategy
Change Waste Recycling partnered with Lost Shore Surf Resort to support the successful launch of their new venue, implementing a tailored and ongoing waste strategy that has already proven its value. The launch of this state-of-the-art facility demonstrates how careful planning, adaptability, and strong collaboration can overcome even the most complex operational challenges.
With a brand-new team, unfamiliar systems, advanced technology, and ambitious footfall projections, there was significant pressure to deliver. The team faced numerous unknowns, from how much waste would be generated to how staff across departments would adapt to new workflows, all within a site constrained by logistical restrictions.
Recognising the scale of the challenge early on, a consultative approach was embedded into the project from the construction phase. This included close collaboration with the Key Account Management team at Change Waste Recycling to design safe, efficient, and sustainable systems for storing and collecting waste, tailored to the site’s unique layout and focused on maximising recyclable waste collection.
“This was never going to be an ‘off-the-shelf’ solution. We needed a partner who could be responsive and deeply involved, and that’s exactly what we got with Change Waste Recycling,”
Mark Stewart, Lost Shore Surf Resort
Through frequent site visits, daily and weekly evaluations, and a hands-on mobilisation period, Change Waste supported Lost Shore in fine-tuning their waste management systems. Flexibility was key, from adjusting collection frequencies and bin numbers to optimising bin placement and ensuring clear labelling to support clean recycling streams.
Comprehensive training was provided to multiple departments across the resort, ensuring staff had the knowledge and confidence to execute the system effectively from day one. In addition, bespoke reporting tools were introduced, enabling Lost Shore to monitor footfall data alongside waste generation, offering valuable insights to drive future operational efficiency.
This collaborative approach ensured Lost Shore Surf Resort launched not only with confidence, but with a waste management strategy built for long-term performance, sustainability, and adaptability.
